A highlight in our year, this event provides the perfect opportunity to bring our members, volunteers and supporters together with the Moor Trees team to reflect on recent achievements and share our plans for the future.
The event, which also includes the charity’s Annual General Meeting, will take place on Sunday 20th September from 10.00am at Badger’s Holt near Dartmeet. This year we are delighted to be joined by local storyteller, published author and friend of Moor Trees Lisa Schneidau who will talk about the importance of trees and their role in folk tales and the culture and understanding of Dartmoor. Lisa Schneidau is a professional storyteller and author of four books on British and Irish folk tales. She uses traditional and modern storytelling to help people develop their connections to nature. Lisa trained as an ecologist and has worked for Wildlife Trusts in various roles over twenty-five years. She lives in Chagford, and she’s also a core group member of the Dartmoor Nature Alliance.
Helen Aldis, Chief Executive of Moor Trees says, “Every year this event provides an important time to come together to celebrate our shared achievements but also update our members on the charity’s recent successes and upcoming priorities. This year we are particularly delighted to be sharing with attendees our plans as outlined in our three-year strategy. This annual gathering provides an important opportunity to thank everyone, especially our volunteers for contributing to our work but also to share in the vital task of seed gathering which starts the journey for the restoration of Dartmoor’s woodland landscape over the coming years.”
The day will start with the AGM where you will hear from our Chair of the Board of Trustees Jenny Isaac, and our Chief Executive Helen Aldis, about our achievements over the past 12-18 months. This year members will also be asked to appoint a new chair of our Board of Trustees as we introduce two prospective new trustees – details to follow. We will also take time to thank our volunteers for the significant contribution they have made in supporting the charity’s mission over the past 12 months.
The day will conclude with an optional afternoon of Seed Gathering at Devon Wildlife Trust’s Dart Valley Nature Reserve as part of the charity’s annual programme of woodland visits which is supported by the Woodland Trust thanks to support from Postcode Lottery players.
This event is open to anyone involved with, or interested in, the work of Moor Trees. Please note that only members of Moor Trees will be able to vote in the AGM, but all are welcome to attend this part of the programme.
