On Thursday 29th February we were delighted to host a training morning on ‘Biosecurity for Community Tree Nurseries’ at our Dartington nursery. Our site visit kicked off the Growing Diversity project’s series of onsite events over the next year to promote peer to peer learning and help build stronger relationships between Community Tree Nurseries. The Growing Diversity project aims to support Community Tree Nurseries with training, knowledge sharing and resources in order to increase the diversity of tree species and provenances available for local tree planting projects in England.
For Moor Trees also being part of the Plant Healthy Group Scheme pilot has helped us to understand even more about biosecurity and what it means for Community Tree Nurseries like ours and we are always keen to learn. The day provided us with an opportunity to share some of the methods we have been put in place as well as explore practical solutions with the other Community Tree Nurseries who had travelled from across the South West of England to attend. Attendees included representatives from Devon Wildlife Trust, National Trust’s Cotehele property in Cornwall, Poole Farm in Plymouth and representatives from Community Tree Nurseries in Wiltshire and Dorset.
The session has also been filmed to be edited into an online training resource to share with the wider Community Tree Nursery community as part of the Tree Production Innovation Fund funded project Growing Biodiversity led by the Woodland Trust and Fellowship of the Trees with the Forestry Commission.
